7-Day Luxury Phu Quoc Itinerary: Villas, Island Hopping & Sunset Town

What a 7-day luxury Phu Quoc itinerary actually looks like

Phu Quoc is roughly 50 km long and 25 km wide, and the island's luxury infrastructure is split between the west coast (Long Beach, Ong Lang, Duong Dong town) and the far south (An Thoi, Sunset Town, Hon Thom). The north holds the theme-park cluster - Vinpearl Safari, VinWonders and Grand World - plus the pepper and fish-sauce farms that make up the island's agricultural half.

A week gives you enough time to move between all three without ever feeling rushed. The table below is the skeleton most luxury operators on the island build from, and it is the same shape we use when guests ask us to arrange transfers and boat days.

Days 1-2: Long Beach arrival, Ong Lang spa and Sunset Sanato

Day 1 is deliberately low-effort. Check into a private-pool villa on Long Beach, the stretch of sand running south from Duong Dong, then walk the beach for sunset. Long Beach faces due west, which means you get the full sun-into-the-sea drop without leaving your hotel. Dinner at Dinh Cau Night Market in Duong Dong town is the standard first night: grilled scallops, sea urchin and fresh-caught snapper priced per kilo rather than per plate. Expect roughly VND 300,000-600,000 ($12-24) per person for a full seafood dinner with drinks.

Day 2 moves you north along the coast to Ong Lang Beach, about 15 minutes from Duong Dong. Ong Lang is quieter and shallower than Long Beach, with a row of boutique resorts and beach clubs tucked into the palm line. This is the day to book a proper spa session. A 60-90 minute Vietnamese or hot-stone massage at a resort spa runs $35-80, and most properties will let non-guests book if you call a day ahead.

Finish the afternoon at Sunset Sanato Beach Club, the sculpture-dotted beach bar on the west coast just north of Duong Dong. The huge elephant and human-head installations standing in the shallows are the island's most photographed sunset foreground, and cocktails run around VND 150,000-250,000 ($6-10). Go early: the good daybeds are gone by 4:30 pm in high season, and the entrance fee for non-diners is small but non-negotiable.

Who this suits: couples and small groups of friends who want to ease in, sleep off a flight and eat well on night one. Who it does not suit: families with young children who land late, or anyone on a two or three night stopover. If you only have 48 hours, skip Ong Lang and Sanato entirely and put everything into a single south-island day instead.

Days 3-4: An Thoi island hopping, the Hon Thom cable car and Sunset Town

Day 3 is the water day. Move your base to An Thoi in the far south, or stay put and take a private transfer down (Duong Dong to An Thoi is about 45 minutes). The classic southern archipelago circuit runs to Mong Tay (also called Fingernail Island), Gam Ghi and May Rut, then finishes at Hon Thom. Shared group boat days with snorkelling gear, lunch and hotel pickup are priced at about $25-45 per person. A private speedboat charter for the same route, on your own schedule with no other guests, runs roughly $250-500 for the day depending on boat size and season.

Snorkelling visibility is best from November to April, when the dry-season winds sit down and the water clears. From May to October expect more chop and lower visibility, though the boats still run. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a dry bag; most operators provide masks and fins but not much else.

Day 4 stays in the south but leaves the water. Take the Hon Thom cable car from An Thoi, the world's longest oversea cable car at 7,899.9 m, crossing open sea to Hon Thom island in roughly 15 minutes. On the far side, Sun World Hon Thom and Aquatopia Water Park fill a full day for families; the combination ticket with the cable car runs about $25-30 per person, and children under 1 m tall usually travel free.

Come back into Sunset Town for the evening. The Kiss Bridge, two curved walkways that meet with a gap you can only cross at certain times, is the photo stop, and the Kiss of the Sea multimedia show runs nightly on the water at roughly $35-45 per person. Book the show at least three days ahead in high season; weekend performances regularly sell out.

Who this suits: anyone happy on a boat, and families who want one big theme-park day. Who it does not suit: travellers prone to seasickness, very young children on the speedboat routes, and anyone who wants a quiet, empty beach in peak season. An Thoi's beaches are busy and the cable car station is a genuine crowd scene from 9:30 am onward.

Day 5: Bai Sao Beach and the Coconut Prison

Day 5 is the island's most photogenic beach day. Bai Sao, on the southeast coast about 25 minutes from An Thoi, has the white sand and shallow turquoise water that fills most Phu Quoc postcards. Arrive before 10 am for a good lounger and shade; by midday in high season the front row is full and the beach clubs are charging premium prices for daybeds.

Pair it with the Coconut Prison museum (Nha Tu Cay Dua), a preserved French-colonial and Vietnam War era prison site a few kilometres inland. Entry is inexpensive and the self-guided walk takes about 45 minutes. It is a sobering counterweight to a week of resorts and worth the stop, especially with older children.

On the way back, stop at An Thoi market for local shopping: black pepper, fish sauce, dried seafood and pearl jewellery are the standard souvenirs. A private driver for the day, covering Bai Sao, the prison and the market with waiting time, runs about $50-80. Motorbike rental is the cheaper alternative at roughly $8-15 per day for a semi-automatic, but the road down to Bai Sao has steep sections and you will want a confident rider.

Day 6: The north island - pepper farms, fish sauce and Vinpearl

Day 6 heads north, roughly 40-50 minutes from Duong Dong. Start at a pepper farm around Khu Tuong, where vines are grown on concrete poles and you can buy peppercorns straight from the drying yard. Then visit a traditional fish sauce factory in Duong Dong or the north, where Phu Quoc's most famous export is fermented in huge wooden vats. Both stops are short, cheap or free, and give the week some texture beyond resorts.

The afternoon splits by travel style. Vinpearl Safari is the better choice for young children: a conservation park with a safari bus through free-roaming enclosures, tickets around $26 per adult. VinWonders is the bigger, more intense option with water slides, a giant aquarium and a theme-park zone; tickets run about $38 per adult and it genuinely needs a full half-day minimum.

End the day at Grand World, the canal-and-facade entertainment complex next to the parks. It is free to walk, with Venice-style gondolas, a nightly light show and dozens of restaurants. This is also where the northern hotels and resorts cluster, so Day 6 is the natural point to move your base north for the final night.

Day 7, costs, and who this itinerary is not for

Day 7 is a slow morning: breakfast at the resort, a final swim, late checkout if your villa allows it, then the transfer back to PQC. Allow 40-50 minutes from the northern resorts, 45 minutes from An Thoi and 15-20 minutes from Long Beach. For international departures, be at the terminal two hours before the flight.

This itinerary is a poor fit for: anyone who wants to stay in one hotel for seven nights without moving, budget travellers targeting under $120 per day for two, and visitors arriving in the peak of the rainy season (July-August) who expect calm seas every day. If any of those describe you, cut the plan to five days, keep one base on Long Beach, and pick just two big excursions instead of five.
